A letter from Richard Steele to his wife, written September 1710:
Dear Prue,
I am very sleepy and tired, but could not think of closing my eyes till I had told you I am, dearest creature, your most affectionate and faithful husband,

When people had no phones, email, or texting, they had to write letters. I think this is sweet, it's like sending a little love text at bedtime.
